Bob "Sonny D" Dickey

Saxophone

"Sonny D" was introduced to the blues and rock & roll at a very young age of 13 in Hartford, Connecticut. Unlike many, he knew what he wanted in life. Music and more music. He was highly influenced by his Dad who always wanted to play the saxophone himself, but coming from a poor family never had the chance. His mother always said, "Someday, you will be a great player." This only drove Sonny harder to become the player he is today. Being exposed to a wide variety of music, eventually he fell in love with the blues. With his focus on music, Sonny never looked back and charged forward performance after performance. Sonny mastered the "Big Texas Tenor" sound of Red Prysock, Sil Austin, Sam Butera, and Earl Bostic.

In his early years working in honky-tonk clubs, he performed with some of the great leaders of the early rock era. The Four Seasons, Sam & Dave, The Five Satins, The Drifters, Rufus Thomas, and many, many more great artists of that time. It was not until he moved south to Atlanta, Georgia did his blue career take off. It was there that he played and recorded with legends like Henry Parilla and Brian Cole,  and worked in the house band at Blind Willie's with Butch Trivette. Sonny also did club dates with Bob Page and Francine Reed and backed up great artists, like Taylor Dane. He performed at the Montreal Jazz festival and the 1996 Olympics with Huey Lewis and the News, Trudy Lynn, Sweet Betty at the Sports Illustrated Venue. His recent relocation to South Carolina came after many visits to his son's home and being able to play with the Untouchables while there. His friendship with Elliott and the band grew stronger and joining the Untouchables has been another highlight in his career.

Sonny always says that no matter what mood you are in, he will play his way into your inner spirit and light it on fire.  Foot stomping, shaking your bootie will just come naturally when you listen!

Come and listen to the blistering hot sounds of Elliott & the Untouchables some time... it pushes Sonny D to the limits.

Sonny sends thanks out to his mighty family for their support, his wonderful wife of 37 years, Bernadette, both his sons, Sean and Randy. They continue to be an inspiration for Sonny that has kept the blues close to his heart. Thanks also to the many friends and fans who make it all worthwhile.
