Mike "Naz" Nazarenko

Harmonica/Vocals

Mike Nazarenko grew up in the Panama Canal Zone, where he was introduced to the blues via Chicago natives who lived across the street. Hearing Big Walter Horton play on Jimmy Rogers' "Chicago Bound" LP was a life-changing moment for Naz. It was the moment that made him pick up the harmonica. After moving to the United States in 1980, Naz settled for a time in Hot Springs, Arkansas. It was there he met his musical and spiritual mentor, B. Daniel Brown, who inspired him to follow his heart and play music professionally. After playing in every juke joint in Hot Springs, he moved to Columbia, South Carolina to play with blues legend, Drink Small. Naz has since shared the stage with may artists including Anson Funderburgh & the Rockets, Nappy Brown, John Kilzner, Guitar Shorty, Henry Grey, Louisiana Red, and many, many more. Naz joined Elliott and The Untouchables in 1996 adding his fiery harp playing to the mix.

"While Mike 'Naz' Nazarenko may not be exactly a household name on his fine blues and chromatic playing, he ought to be. He puts the harp right where it ought to be, with the right chops in the right spots." American Harmonica Newsletter

"Naz is one of the few harmonica players I have witnessed that comes across with a big harmonica sound true to the tradition of the blues. Definately one of the hottest players today." Anson Funderburgh

"Mike 'Naz' Nazarenko plays a freight train powered harp, yet maintains style and grace." Charlotte Blues Society
